A Practical Mental Wellbeing Toolkit built for Rural Life.

What is it
The Farm Life Handbook is a digital wellbeing toolkit packed with practical tools, short videos, and guided exercises to help you manage stress, build resilience, and reconnect with what matters.

Who's It For
This resource is for anyone living and working in rural or regional areas: farmers, families, frontline workers, and community members navigating tough times. Whether you’re feeling flat, burned out, or just want to strengthen your mental wellbeing, this is for you.

Why It Matters
Life on the land can be isolating and unpredictable, and mental health often takes a back seat. By using tools built for rural life, we can improve how we cope with stress, stay connected to our values, and support ourselves and each other through the hard stuff.
Meet Steph Schmidt
Farming can be incredibly tough but it can also be incredibly rewarding. We manage unpredictability, uncertainty, weather, financial and job pressures.Â
I’m a psychologist and also a farmer, farm wife, and mum of three boys. I know all too well the pressures that farm life can bring, especially as we currently navigate the ongoing drought across South Australia. While it can be incredibly challenging, farming life can also be full of rewards, purpose and satisfaction.Â
But most of the time we don’t do it alone.Â
There are over 87,000 farming families in Australia, so successful farming is just as much about managing the relationships we have as it is about the crops we sow or the livestock we raise.
As farmers, male and female, as well as those supporting farmers and agribusinesses – I belive we can all take small steps every day to care for our wellbeing so that we can thrive even during times of adversity.
